Kiryu ‘Omeshi weave’

There are two regions in Japan famed for their silk: Nishijin in Kyoto on the west side of Japan, and Kiryu on the east.

We use the highest grade of weave, called "omeshi," which originated in Kiryu.
We take it as our mission to use these traditional styles in new and innovative ways.

ORIGINS

High-grade omeshi-weave silk is very strong and produces an elegant kimono with a balanced combination of style and grace.
The weave supposedly dates back to Ienari, the 11th Tokugawa Shogun, who preferred to wear kimono woven in this style.

These fabrics are the final work of Mr. Junichi Osawa and the long-standing fabric shop Shimozen, and only a few remain in existence.
